Lex has a wealth of property valuation knowledge stemming from a career which began in the Valuation Department and then moved into private practice, culminating in the establishment of his own valuation firm, Alexander Hayward Ltd, in 1982.
He has been a Valuer based in Marlborough since 1976, and has developed an in-depth knowledge of the local property market including commercial, industrial, tourist accommodation and viticultural interests in the region. Lex specialises in appraisal of unique property types such as fractional interests, going concerns, aquaculture farms, transmitter sites, infrastructural assets and Marlborough Sounds properties, which sees him in demand throughout the Marlborough region.
Lex is a:
- Registered Public Valuer, holding an Annual Practising Certificate
- Registered Plant & Machinery Valuer
- Fellow Member of the New Zealand Institute of Valuers
- Property Consultant holding "Fellow" Membership of the Property Institute of New Zealand
- Qualified Arbitrator & Mediator
- Associate of the Arbitrators & Mediator’s Institute for New Zealand
- Member of the Land Valuation Tribunal appointed by the Minister of Justice
His qualifications include:
- Diploma in Agriculture
- Diploma in Valuation and Farm Management (Lincoln University)
With all this experience and expertise, Lex doesn't have a lot of spare time. He and his wife, Sylvia, operate Benmorven Cottage in Blenheim, a luxury retreat on their vineyard in the heart of the Marlborough wine region. When Lex does get time to unwind, he enjoys keel yacht racing, boating, fishing, scuba diving and travelling with his family.
