Alexander (Lex) Hayward

Lex has a wealth of property valuation knowledge stemming from a career which began in the Valuation Department and then moved into private practice, culminating in the establishment of his own valuation firm, Alexander Hayward, in 1982.
He has been a Valuer based in Marlborough since 1976, and has developed an in-depth knowledge of the local property market including commercial, industrial, tourist accommodation and viticultural interests in the region. Lex specialises in appraisal of unique property types such as fractional interests, going concerns, aquaculture farms, transmitter sites, infrastructural assets and Marlborough Sounds properties, which sees him in demand throughout the Marlborough region.

With all this experience and expertise, Lex doesn't have a lot of spare time. He and his wife, Sylvia operate Ben Morven Estate, their vineyard in the heart of the Marlborough wine region. When Lex does get time to unwind, he enjoys boating, fishing and travelling with his family.
Bridget Steele
BBS (Valuation and Property Management), ANZIV, SPINZ, Senior Registered Property Valuer
Blenheim, Kaikoura, Marlborough Sounds and Greater Marlborough are Bridget’s areas where she specialises in residential, rural, lifestyle, commercial and retail property valuations. She has been valuing properties in Marlborough since 1990 and in 2000 brought her expertise to Alexander Hayward.

In her spare time, Bridget enjoys skiing in winter and mucking about in boats, whether it is kayaking or pursuing a giant snapper in the Kenepuru. Through her love of tramping, Bridget is ticking off New Zealand’s great walks. She is currently involved as a Volunteer with the Red Cross for Pathways to Settlement Programme and also for the Department of Conservation.
Hadley Hayward

Hadley joined the Alexander Hayward Team in 2013 after attending both Otago and Lincoln Universities and briefly travelling overseas. Having been brought up in Marlborough and introduced to Valuation from an early age, his specialist areas include residential properties, Marlborough Sounds properties, viticulture, lifestyle and commercial property.

Michelle Jin
Graduate Valuer
Alexander Hayward welcomed Michelle to the firm in January 2023 after completing a Graduate Diploma in valuation at Lincoln University in 2022 and previously obtaining an Undergraduate Degree overseas before travelling around the world working within the hospitality industry.
Michelle embraces diversity, is a keen problem solver and whilst assisting and learning from our team of Valuers, will work towards becoming a Registered Property Valuer.
Michelle’s qualifications include:
-Bachelor’s degree in International Tourism Management (with Honours)

Michelle is enjoying Marlborough’s lifestyle, enjoys strolling and hiking (is a big foliage fan!) as well as handcrafting, reading and cooking. She is looking forward to exploring all of Marlborough and its surrounds as well as sampling food, wine and sunshine, everything bright and beautiful!
Karyn Tollison
Graduate Valuer
Karyn joined the team at Alexander Hayward as a Graduate Rural Valuer in April 2024 after relocating from Nelson and is continuing to pursue her goal in becoming a Registered Property Valuer.
She is originally from Wairoa in Hawkes Bay and after gaining a Bachelor of Agri. Business (Majoring in Rural Property Valuation) from Massey University moved to the top of the south in 2022.
Outside of work Karyn is a keen scratchboard and pencil artist and enjoys getting out in the bush or hills with her partner for hunting/hiking/nature photography opportunities. She also enjoys horse riding, relaxing at the beach/river, pottering around the garden, and reading.
Elaine Ward
Executive Assistant
Elaine joined Alexander Hayward in 2002 and her knowledge, experience and professional capabilities are paramount to the day to day management of the office and also with providing secretarial support to the AHL team.
She enjoys being part of a close knit team who are passionate about building great relationships with their clients whilst continuously working hard to achieve the best possible outcome for them and feels having a sense of humour and ‘can do’ attitude goes a long way.
Outside of the office, you’ll find Elaine enjoying life whether it be travelling, gardening, walking or just relaxing in the local restaurants and wineries in the area
Pauline Troon
Reception / Administration
Pauline joined Alexander Hayward in March 2021 and brings experience and knowledge in office administration, reception and property management to the firm.
More than likely Pauline will be your first point of contact and you will be greeted with her warm friendly disposition and great sense of humour. She enjoys meeting with clients and forming relationships and has a ‘can do’ attitude.
Pauline provides reception and administration support to her colleagues as well as the occasional baking treats – more often than not!
In her spare time Pauline enjoys tennis, walking, gardening, family time and getting out there to enjoy as much of what beautiful Marlborough has to offer.
